Our Nephew's Birthday

As you all know, I became an aunt last September to a little boy named Andrew. Right after Shaun landed this past Sunday, we went straight to Drew's first birthday party! The picture to the left was the day after he was born. He was such a little guy! He has grown so much in the past few months. He was once this tiny little baby and I feel like we all blinked and he is now this mobile little man. He is walking everywhere! He is such a cutie and we love watching him grow!
I had to buy Drew's birthday present while Shaun was gone, so I went to Toys-R-Us and took pictures with my iphone of all of the possible presents we could get him. I still wanted Shaun to be a part of picking the gift even though he wasnt in town, so I emailed him all of the choices. Shaun picked him out a little ride on truck. I think it was a good choice :) I'm sure he'll love it.

Here he was opening his gift from us:
Right before he dug into his cake:

He was done. Look at that face!!

Cabin Weekend!

Every year my family goes up to Forest Lakes, AZ on labor day weekend. This year it was moved up a weekend, so Shaun was unable to go because he was still with the Raiders. We both look forward to this weekend every year and I have been going up there for almost 10 years. A lot of couples in my parent's bible study group have cabins up there, so we all go and have a weekend together up there. We spend the weekend eating a ton of food, riding quads, and playing card games.
My family went up a day early, so that we could relax without anyone there. We spent the whole day riding the quads and rangers. Later that evening we ate dinner at the local fish fry and then went back to one of the cabins and played Fill or Bust (it is a super fun game!).
Saturday was way too eventful!! We woke up that morning and went to breakfast at the cabin who was in charge of that meal. We spent most of the morning having a Bible study. After the discussion, a bunch of the kids wanted to go out riding on the quads. I didn't really feel like going, so I stayed behind to do some studying in the quiet. Here is where the craziness began.... I got a phone call an hour into my studying and it was my sister Jess. She was calling to inform me that my brother Philip was in an accident with the small ranger. None of the adults were with them, so they needed my Mom and I to come find them. We raced over in my car and found out that my brother and the passenger that he was carrying were okay. They flipped the ranger down a large hill and rolled it at least 4 times! They are SO lucky that they walked away from the accident without any broken bones. Thankfully they were wearing their helmets and seatbelts.
When arriving to the scene of the accident, my brain started racing....I'm standing there checking out the girl, trying to remember what I should be assessing her for... thankfully it all came back to me and I began assessing her for all the textbook things that they say to do.
The ranger that they were driving had a flat tire and the hill was so steep that we didn't even want to try to get it out (remember it was just me, my mom and the kids there). We were more worried about Philip and the girl, so we left it at the bottom of the 50 foot hill.
About an hour later back at the cabin, we finally got the hold of the parents of the girl who was in the accident. They were on a hike with some other people and came right over as soon as they heard. My Mom wanted to show them the large hill that they rolled down, so the parents went back to the scene while I stayed back with the passengers. I got a phone call later from my Mom who told me that when they showed up at the accident site, there were four men trying to steal the ranger from the ditch! Mom jumped out of the car and started yelling at them. I can just picture my mom now....yelling at four 20 year old boys!
Well at the end of the day, all turned out well...my brother and his passenger were okay and we got the ranger back to the cabin. I enjoyed the rest of the weekend...the only thing that would have made it better would be if Shaun would have been able to be there. At least I know that there is always next year!

Guess who is home?

After 5 long weeks, MY HUBBY IS HOME!!!! oh I have missed him so much. He landed on Sunday and I am happy to have him back. I felt like my other half was gone and something was missing inside. I am so glad that he was able to have this experience as an intern with the Oakland Raiders, but I don't know if I can handle not seeing him for that long!

While Shaun was gone, my sister Jess stayed with me for most of the time. I enjoyed being able to have an extended sleepover party with her. It was great to get to stay up late and chat like little girls. It will be a memory that I will remember forever.

When I get more time, I will let you all know about my eventful weekend that I had. Right now, I am in the middle of some exams and must get back to studying :)

A whole lotta nothin'

Well its been a while since I have written anything. Everyday I get on my computer and I always have the intention to write something, then I realize I have NOTHING to talk about.

Shaun has officially been gone for 2 weeks. For those of you who don't know, he was offered a wonderful opportunity to be an intern with the Oakland Raiders. He is in Napa Valley, where he has been working in the athletic training department for their training camp. He has been busy everyday. Most days I don't get to talk to him till 9 o'clock at night! Not only has it been an adjustment getting used to him not being here, but its been weird not being able to talk to him until late. I am used to talking to him every few hours in a regular day.
Without my husband being here, I have spent more time studying and hanging out with girlfriends. Oh, and I have also now started watching ESPN's NFL live, just on the off chance the camera crew gets a shot of Shaun in the background!!!!! haha...I have to admit I don't like watching espn AT ALL, but now it has become a nightly occurrence!
oh the things we do when we are in love..... :)

This morning I started my next semester. I really enjoyed my break...although it went by WAY TO FAST!
We spent the week in a half hanging out with friends and family, seeing movies, going out to dinner, and going to the pool. It was a lot of fun and I feel refreshed and ready to go!

The end of another

Well I am done with another semester. Boy they are sure flying by! This was the hardest semester thus far. I think it was the worst because of the hard material and the month of dealing with Shaun's brain mass. It was really hard to balance everything. I was struggling to stay afloat in classes and with everything else that was going on that I felt like all of the other thing in life got pushed to the side. The house was never clean, I hardly cooked dinners, my relationships with my friends suffered...but in all of that, my relationship with Christ grew stronger. I had to rely on Him to get me through the day.
I passed Pharmacology, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics. I am now moving on to Advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, and a Leadership class. I will have classes every Monday, Tuesday and Friday. I will be at the hospital every Thursday. I will start off the semester at Mountain Vista Medical Center, where I'll have 9 weeks on the Med-Surg floor. Then I'll be at Phoenix St. Luke's Hospital for my Mental Health rotation!
When I am at Phoenix St. Luke's Shaun will be there too!! He has a PT clinical in their Physical Therapy department. I am excited about this..even though it is most likely that I will not see him at all because we will be in two separate areas of the hospital..it is still great to know that he'll be there!
This is my last semester in classes!!!!!! I will be in classes for this semester and then my last semester I will only have clinicals the the hospital! I can finally see the end of school! Only 8 more months until I am an RN!

Until I start my next semester, I am excited for my next week off! We spent the past few days celebrating Shaun's 25th Birthday with family and friends. I am using this week to catch up on life. Cleaning the house and spending time with friends is my top priority. I am looking forward to the next week and all of the dinners that we have planned with friends!

4th of July

I took a break from studying for finals last night and we went up to my parents house for the night. Mom made a wonderful low country boil with crab, shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn! It was so good!!! And it wouldn't be the 4th without homemade ice cream for dessert!
We then made our way over to peoria for their fireworks show. We did what we do every year and parked in front of the Target and walked to find just the right spot to watch. We arrived right at 9, just before the show stared, so all of the "good' seats were taken. Now when I say good seats, I mean the grass seats. The only spots left were in the gravel. We were ok with this because of what was to come later. After we got all settled, my Dad made a comment about how funny it would be if the sprinklers went off. Well wouldn't you know, the moment that the show started, the sprinklers came on!! Although I felt bad for all those people who were now soaked with water, I could help to laugh at how funny it was!
I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July!
